Spray it on?

This photo is a brand of oil you can spray on your food – it is not part of this article but in essence shows exactly what a release agent spray on a candy mold, bread mold or any other food related mold is doing. You are eating the oil that has been sprayed onto the pan and then the food cooks within that oil. So, what’s in the spray? Shouldn’t we all know all of the ingredients that are within the can? Be informed and should you suddenly be allergic to a food you weren’t before, could it be the spray used to make the food look pretty?

A friend on my Facebook page asked me about my blog and stated that her face was swollen shut and they still don’t know what caused it and it reminded me about release agents. I have mentioned them before but continue to research and thought I’d share my post to her here:

I had a tootsie roll one night and had symptoms similar to advanced stages of Cerebral Palsy. I couldn’t walk, and according to their website, there is nothing in that candy that I’m allergic to… I wrote them and they admitted they use a release agent with Tocopherol Stearate in it. Tocopherol is Vitamin E, however that vitamin is not extracted from the same plant every time. I was able to eat these in the past – entire bags of them, with -0- symptoms and now -1- will knock me down! I tried vegan candy from the healthfood store and it also had -0- allergens and only Tocopherol, to attribute my passing out in less than a minute.

I ingest my Vitamin E using Red Palm oil, Sunflower Oil and Safflower oils.. or foods that contain these foods. It’s this spray-on release agent used to release the candy that has me concerned. They list it as food-safe and it sounds like a good idea – but just where is the Vitamin E coming from in some of these sprays? Yes, I’m allergic to wheat – but honestly it never affected my neurological function in the past, so I’m wondering – is there a new nut or plant that is being used in this spray that they are hiding under the Tocopherol name? Is it safe?

This is only one gray area in the ingredient lists that we are finally getting on our food packages There is serious need for them to also explain where they get the ingredient from – which food, or worse,, is it synthetic and chemically generated and still called the same thing? I’d prefer not to die just to keep food from sticking on a pan.

This site speaks of names that are in other countries but it shows the vastness of the situation with regards to natural vs. chemical. I’m going to study this site more and am diligently trying to find out how many different plants are used to create Tocopherol to hopefully uncover why it has such a serious affect on me. http://www.dermnetnz.org/reactions/e-numbers.html

Welcome Back Eye Lashes!

I was just reminded about the fact that my eye lashes were all but gone, I thought it was due to using water-proof mascara (I don’t anymore) and stopped as a result. I have been enjoying not having to try to fill in the gaps between them but had forgotten how few remained before I stopped eating foods that I was allergic to.

If you’re losing yours, if your eyelash area itches, it may be something you’re eating…..

No more acrylic nails for me! :)

For the last 20 or so years, I’ve had acrylic covering my nail beds. You may think it was for glamour sake, however it was more than that.

Because my business keeps my hands under the camera’s eye and the eyes of thousands, I did want my nails to look nice – mostly because bad looking nails is a distraction for the viewer. However the real reason I began applying it over my nails were because my nails:

  1. Were thin. (thinner than anyone in my family)
  2. Bent backward if I pushed against things.
  3. Nail beds were shaped so that the nails went up at the ends instead of downward. (the only one in my family with nail beds that shape)
  4. Nail beds were tender to the touch. (slightest tap would cause severe pain)
  5. Nails split in layers. (peeled like there were layers on top of each other instead of one solid nail)
  6. Nails tore. (so easily that I couldn’t even scratch myself without them bending back and tearing)

Now, after several months of not eating any of my food allergies, my nails are strong, they are healing from years of applying acrylic and even the area that has been filed down is stronger than my original nails were. I can tap the top of the thin areas and there is no pain!

I have been using a glue on nail (not sanding nail bed) to cover the ugly nails that remain, but the new growth is young strong looking nails!

This is very exciting, I’ve never wanted to wear them and am finally free of the process. I knew each time I breathed in the smell, I was hurting my lungs and am so grateful to finally not have to inhale it.

Interesting to find such odd symptoms going away revealing themselves to me after 48 years of eating foods that I was allergic to….. so wonderful and so shocking.

Should you take your Vitamins?

I’m aware of the importance to eat your vitamins, I’ve been taking them most of my life. One thing I’ve noticed is that some vitamins make me fall asleep – my body temperature drops and I have trouble breathing. I am allergic to many foods and found the culprit Magnesium Stearate! It should be clearer what is used to produce it and those ingredients should also be on the bottle. Become informed about Magnesium Stearate – http://www.livestrong.com/article/37138-side-effects-magnesium-stearate-/

Having food allergies is complicated to say the least!

Statistics on Food Allergies within the US

The following link is a report covering studies from the US alone and I believe, after my experience, that many more people suffer with food allergies without their knowledge. http://www.foodallergy.org/files/FoodAllergyFactsandStatistics.pdf

Movies frequently depict a person suffering an  Anaphylaxic episode with outward signs including exaggerated swelling on the face and neck. It is unrealistic as depicted in this photo of movie star and comedian Martin Short, in the movie “Pure Luck” with co-star Danny Glover.

Or Will Smith in the movie “Hitch” as shown here:

I’m not saying some people don’t experience this extreme swelling from eating foods they’re allergic to. In-fact, my tongue was swollen so often that I got braces to increase the space in my lower jaw to allow more room for it, I had a bee sting on my pinky-finger that proceeded to cause my entire arm and neck to swell. What I’m saying is that it doesn’t always happen, sometimes you simply have what appears to be an asthma attack and you can show no outward signs of Anaphylaxis but in-fact be experiencing it and putting your life at risk.

I hope this helps you see why I went most of my life suffering food allergies without knowing and save you from thinking that you or someone you love simply has Asthma.

New page on Symptoms

https://clarerowley.wordpress.com/food/physical-symptoms-tips-for-eating-out/

This page talks about my allergies, the symptoms I experiences, things I’ve learned and the entire allergy symptom list for each allergen. I hope this page helps you deal with your allergy or those of someone you love and care for. This is a challenging thing but much better life choice, to eat what’s good for us instead of what is available. Feeling good improves life in ways you won’t know unless you take your life and health into your own hands. Empowerment!

AIA = Allergy-Induced Asthma (ugh)

Allergy-Induced Asthma is the title for my diagnosis, offered to me some 18 years back and if you think about the name, you may think that the doctors would find out what you were allergic to once they determine that something you’re allergic to is making you unable to breathe. However they would rather give you a chemical inhaler with steroids to reduce the symptom than find the cause.

I am grateful for the inhalers, they make it so I can breathe on days when there are fires, when polution levels are dangerously high, when I wanted to excercise and on and on and on….

One day my doctor said, the inhaler that you’ve been using for years has been changed by the FDA because evidently they are toxic enough to cause the ozone to break down! I was not feeling so good about using the inhaler after that statement but what else could I do? If I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t breathe, so I kept using it. My life was changed – I had to carry it with me or I’d panic!

Looking back I wish that I had thought more about the name of my condition and got some answers instead of just accepting what my doctor offered as a solution. ALLERGY-induced Asthma……..

What am I allergic to? What allergen is making me gasp for breathe? I hope that others learn from my experience and find out what food allergies you may have so that you can stop eating them.

I found out that I’m allergic to foods that I never eliminated in my elimination diet – that I in-fact was eating mostly foods that I’m allergic to!

A simple blood test and some self-control and I have only used my inhaler once! Over 2 weeks and only needed it once! I just got back from a 2 mile jog, yes a jog! I didn’t take my inhaler with me and I didn’t even think to use it before I left! My life in only 2 weeks has improved so much that I just want to scream it from the roof-tops so others like me can be free too!
